Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel

There are many types and strenghts of facial chemical peels, from 30% to 70%. Skin peels are a deep exfoliation procedure that removes the top layer of the skin, it sloughs off the old dead outer skin cells to reveal a fresher and brighter complexion.

The treatment is simple and safe and very effective, it is used to reduce the visible signs of aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines, it also reduces facial discolouration, blemishes, dry patches and it can decrease the pore size significantly. Following the treatment the skin will look fresher, radiant and more youthful with a healthy and rejuvinated glow. They can be of great benefit to the treatment of acne.

Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as Glycolic, Lactic, or fruit acids are the natural forms of peel, they are the mildest of the peel formulas, but are very effective. These work gently over the course of your treatment as opposed to an invasive single deep peel. Glycolic Acid is formulated from sugar cane, this acid creates an exfoliating action and works by loosening up the horny layer of skin and exfoliating the superficial top layer, this peel also stimulates collagen growth. These peels are typically delivered either by single treatment to give your skin a boost or over a 6 week period for a more dramatic effect.

The consultation
A specific chemical peel is recommeded based on your skin type and your desired result. A treatment plan is formed which often includes an increase in the peel strength as your skin adapts to the treatment. A single peel will produce a noticeable benefit, however greater results will be gained from a course of treatments, this is usually a course of six treatments which are delivered at two or three week intervals. depending on your skin type and the strength of peel used.

The procedure
The procedure will take 30 minutes, your skin is prepared and the peel applied. You may experience a mild prickling sensation during the treatments. Afterwards a soothing product is applied, the skin may appear slightly red for a short time. However, some people find they do not experience any side-effects.

After care
After 2-3 days you may notice some skin flaking as the treatment encourages the dead skin cells to slough off. This is quite normal, the skin can be brushed gently to remove the dead skin. A sunscreen of factor 30 (UVA and UVB filter) or above should be used to protect the new skin.
